Blackout Roller Blinds
Are you needed to shade light coming into a room? Look no further than blackout roller blinds.
Blackout roller blinds are a thicker grade of roller blind than you’d normally find with conventional roller blinds. This type of blind is specially made to provide you with the ability to stop light from coming into the room from the outside.
There are some other really great advantages of blackout roller blinds. For one, they also great privacy blinds. You will not be either exposing yourself through a curtained window, nor will you provide a profile when using standard blinds.
Second, they are great in the winter time acting as another layer to keeping the heat in and the cool air out of the room. We find that blackout roller blinds are very handy on the wind side of the house. Rooms on that side of the house stay toasty warm in winter and cooler in summer because of the blinds.
I would personally recommend purchasing blackout roller blinds that are made from a vinyl material than cloth covered blinds. Simply because it is much easier to keep the vinyl type clean. You do have to be a little more careful with vinyl simply because as it ages it can be punctured or torn with abuse.
When looking to purchase a set of blackout roller blinds for a room, be sure to properly measure your window dimensions. When measuring, capture the inside wall to wall measurement of the window frame and also the distance from trim edge to trim edge on the outside of the window frame.
This will provide you both dimensions to help you decide upon whether you purchase inside or outside frame installed blinds. If you find that you cannot find blinds that perfectly fit on the inside, then you will need to resort to outside blinds.
One final thing you need to know about blackout roller blinds is the fact that you must be careful when rolling them up. If you release the blinds before they have coiled back up to the top, you can either break the mechanism in the blind from the force of the spring returning the blind to the top or have it comes right off of the brackets.
Both conditions should be avoided if possible. You will accidentally have the blackout roller blinds jump out of your hands once in a while. I’ve personally found it pretty much impossible to completely avoid.
Finally ensure you shop around as the pricing of blackout window blinds can vary quite a bit between store to store. Avoid the really cheap models, as they are easily broken, but consider spending between $25 to $75 per window.
Blackout roller blinds are a great addition to a room to reduce the amount of lighting that enters a room in the day or at night.
